Introduction

Canadian artist Thomas Ziorjen paints the figure, largely for the expressive potential the human presence has in a painting. He extends this using drawn, painted, and collaged elements. His work sets form and structure against expressive gesture and colour. It explores relationships between the human body & the lyrical, calligraphic mark, luminous colour fields, or sometimes jarring non sequiturs..

Mr. Ziorjen lives in Pender Harbour, a small community on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast, with his wife and their two sons.

"The relative quiet of my life here allows me the concentration I need to paint; and though I don't paint landscapes, the spectacular coastline makes its way into my work."
